Disability service plan
Our Disability Service Plan 2022-2023 (PDF, 290.6KB) delivers on the Queensland Government’s vision:
"…to help build an inclusive Queensland where all Queenslanders, including the one in five Queenslanders who have a disability, can thrive and reach their full potential as equal citizens. A Queensland where people with disability are respected for their abilities and have equal access to opportunities, to contribute and participate in all that Queensland has to offer."
Our plan ensures people with a disability have access to the same department services, information and facilities that are available to the broader community and details the actions we will be undertaking to improve this access. The plan also acknowledges the right of people with a disability to participate as equitably as others, bringing to the department a set of unique skills, experiences, perspectives and knowledge.
In addition to the actions in this plan, we are also:
- delivering a range of activities under the Year of Accessible Tourism to enable everyone to participate in a tourism experience with choice and confidence and lay the foundations for making the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games the world’s most accessible and inclusive sporting event for athletes and spectators.
- providing funding under the Minor Infrastructure Program for infrastructure projects that enhance community participation in sport and recreation through the provision of spaces that are inclusive and accessible – ensuring no one is excluded from participation.
- committed to providing inclusive and accessible facilities and activities at our Sport and Recreation venues.
Our Disability Service Plan is currently being reviewed following the release of Australia's Disability Strategy 2021-2031 and Queensland's Disability Plan 2022-27. A new Disability Service Plan for 2023-2026 is under development and will be released in late 2023.
