Our services

Our department delivers services in these areas:

Tourism

Queensland has the second largest tourism industry in Australia and we’re working hard to get us to the number one spot.

That’s why we’re investing in quality tourism products, attractions and experiences and making the most of our unique, competitive tourism advantages.

Tourism industry development is delivered across two priority focus areas:

  • Tourism Infrastructure and Investment
  • Tourism Recovery, Olympic Engagement and Legacy.

With a shared objective the two focus areas promote the recovery and return to long-term growth of the tourism industry by facilitating a strategic whole-of-government approach to attracting and amplifying investment in Queensland’s tourism infrastructure, assets and products, and leveraging major events to generate jobs and other benefits.

Sport and Recreation

We are supporting and encouraging Queensland’s participation and success in sport and active recreation.

The Activate! Queensland 2019–29 Strategy seeks to enrich the Queensland way of life through physical activity, through providing more opportunities for Queenslanders to be physically active.

Our Sport and Recreation objective is to benefit Queenslanders and their communities by promoting healthier, more active lifestyles, through supporting and encouraging participation in sports and recreation.

Queensland Academy of Sport

The Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) is the Queensland Governments’ high-performance sports agency that provides and delivers world-leading performance support services for elite athletes to achieve podium success on the world stage. We have state-of-the-art Olympic and Paralympic training facilities at Nathan, Brisbane.

At the QAS, we support more than 450 pre-elite and elite athletes from talented juniors to Olympic, Paralympic and world championships medallists. We support both in-house squad programs, partnership programs with state and national sporting organisations, and scholarships for individuals on medal-winning trajectories for international success.
