Kickstart for Samford Equestrian Group
Riders at the Samford Equestrian Group are safely back in the saddle thanks to the implementation of a new COVID-safe contactless event management system.
The club applied for funding under the department’s COVID SAFE Active Clubs Kickstart program for $2000 to purchase equipment to help deliver quality physical activity experiences.
The club used the funds to purchase 3 tablets to use at club activities and events.
Club spokesperson Kath Evans said the club loved the paper-less solution the tablets provided for their competitions.
“The tablets can be easily uploaded with relevant test sheets to suit our club’s various equestrian disciplines - dressage, jumping and working equitation,” she said.
“We can record judges scores and comments in real time and instantly upload them to an online platform that can be accessed by competitors.
“Gone are the long hours of waiting for results from the manual data input ‘number-crunchers’ sitting far away in the old shed,” Ms Evans said.
Most importantly however, the tablets enable an improved COVID-safe environment by removing the requirement for paper test sheets. In days gone by these sheets would need to pass through numerous volunteer hands before being handed out to competitors.
Additionally, riders can now electronically check in and out of the venue using this same electronic platform so event organisers can record attendance details.
Ms Evans said the new tablets were used during the club’s official Dressage Competition on the 19th of July and received great feedback from both participants and officials.
This is a wonderful example of clubs embracing change and using technology to create a COVID-safe environment for their sporting community.
