Cowboys riding high with new $40 million training centre

07 May 2021

The North Queensland Cowboys now have one of the best high-performance training facilities in the country with the opening of the $40 million Hutchinson Builders Centre in Townsville.

The three-storey building is located right next to the Cowboys’ home ground at Queensland Country Bank Stadium and includes an indoor synthetic turf training field, basketball court and gym overlooking a community training field.

There are also three recovery swimming pools, a heat and altitude chamber, sleep room and sports medicine laboratories, in addition to the Cowboys’ administration area, lecture theatre and function room.

The centre will help the club retain and recruit talent while attracting more sporting teams to North Queensland and serving as a learning and research facility in partnership with James Cook University.

A total of 213 jobs were created during the construction phase with a further 58 full-time jobs supported at the Centre from 2022.

The Cowboys Community, Training and High-Performance Centre was jointly funded by the Queensland Government ($5 million), the Federal Government ($15 million) and the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility ($20 million loan).
