Netball gets cooler in Longreach with undercover courts

05 May 2021

A shade structure with lighting, insulation and industrial fans over three netball courts has made netball a whole lot cooler to play in Longreach.

The impressive fixed roof is built to withstand harsh wind, heat and rain so that netballers can play during the heat of the day, out of the sun, while the courts are also protected.

Longreach Netball Association, which has 200 members, can now host more carnivals, attract new players and extend the season right through until the end of November.

The new complex, situated at Longreach Showgrounds, can also be used by fitness and recreation groups, for community events, school holiday programs and market days.

The project was completed as part of a $900,000 Queensland Government investment through the Active Community Infrastructure program.
