New stadium to be built for Premiership winning Lions

17 May 2021

The Brisbane Lions will soon be rewarded for their 2021 AFLW Premiership with construction now underway on a $70 million new stadium and high-performance centre at Springfield.

Once the stadium is finished in September 2022, the Lions women’s team will be able to play their home games at a boutique 10,000-seat stadium.

They’ll also be able to train alongside the men’s team at an indoor training facility featuring a gym, pool, childcare centre, events lawn and administration centre with meeting rooms and an auditorium.

The Community Arena will be the first team sports facility in Australia to provide elite training facilities for both professional men’s and women’s teams.

It will also be used for AFLQ community programs, NEAFL and representative matches, and all facilities can be used by the entire Springfield community.

The centre will be built by Hutchinson Builders, supporting 187 jobs during construction.

The Community Arena is being jointly funded by the Queensland Government, Federal Government, Ipswich City Council, AFL and Brisbane Lions.
