Olympics unleashed in FNQ

30 Nov 2021

The QAS’ Olympic silver medallist, Taliqua Clancy, joined fellow Olympians Brad Hore and Danny Morseu on a tour across Far North Queensland recently as part of the Australian Olympic Committee’s Olympics Unleashed program.

The tour visited remote Indigenous communities on Thursday Island, Horn Island, Yarrabah and Lockhart River.

The program offers children the chance to meet with Olympians, hear about their Olympic journeys and inspire the next generation of sporting stars.

The Australian team that travelled to Tokyo this year included the largest contingent of Indigenous athletes in Games history. Of the 486 athletes, 16 represented the First Nations people of Australia.

With visits from their Olympic heroes, the Olympics Unleashed program is sure to unearth Queensland’s talent pool for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Queensland Government has been a proud supporter of this program and its delivery to more than 120,000 students right across the state.
