New level of experience on the Great Barrier Reef

19 Oct 2021

Sleeping under the stars on the Great Barrier Reef is now possible with the opening of the Lady Musgrave Island Pontoon.

Located more than 90 kilometres from Bundaberg, and powered by wind and solar, the new three-level 35 metre by 12 metre structure will offer a number of exciting opportunities for visitors.

Funded through the Growing Tourism Infrastructure ($2.6million), the pontoon will cater up to 350 visitors per day for snorkelling and diving experiences, as well as an underwater observatory and upper deck sleeping accommodation.

The underwater element also offers sleeping berths for up to 20 people.

Prior to COVID-19, the pontoon was expected to deliver an extra 16,000 visitors and inject $1.84 million into the region.
