Yarrabah projects keep community active

21 Apr 2022

More local residents are keeping active in the Yarrabah community through two new projects supported by the Queensland Government.

The soil has officially been broken on the new female-friendly amenities at the Jilara Oval in Yarrabah and finishing touches are being made on a revamped Police Citizens Youth Club (PCYC).

With an investment of $993,000 through the Active Community Infrastructure Fund (ACI), the new amenities will include new change rooms, a canteen, an equipment room, toilets and a meeting room.

The Jilara Oval is used frequently throughout the year including for local netball and rugby league competitions, as well as music festivals.

Works at the nearby Yarrabah PCYC are nearing completion and would be ready to welcome members later in 2022. Yarrabah PCYC received $162,000 in funding through the Get Playing Places and Spaces program to upgrade existing indoor recreation spaces and multi-sport activities.

The Queensland Government has been working in partnership with the Yarrabah Aboriginal Shire Council to deliver these projects for the community and local residents.
