Leichhardt Junior Soccer Club kicks a goal with $900,000 in new facilities

05 Aug 2022

Junior footballers in Cairns have $900,000 worth of brand new facilities to enjoy with the official opening of a clubhouse extension, change rooms and new lighting for Leichhardt Junior Soccer Club at Jeff Pezzutti Park in Woree.

The clubhouse has been extended and a covered patio added which will provide more space around the canteen and greatly improve the club’s ability to host events and functions.

There is new LED lighting on field two and upgraded lighting on field one to enable greater training capacity in a safe environment and bring the fields up to a standard required to host competition games.

There are also new female-friendly change rooms and amenities, including a referee/first-aid room to make the club a more welcoming place for girls of all ages who want to play football and also for male and female referees and officials who can use the new facilities to prepare for games.

Leichhardt Junior Soccer Club has a rich Italian heritage dating back to 1975 and now has 289 members including 91 girls and four all-girls teams.

The works were funded by a $900,000 investment through the Queensland Government’s Active Community Infrastructure program.
