Innovative projects funded through ActiveKIT Round 2

A total of 25 innovative projects looking to put an active lifestyle within reach of more Queenslanders have been approved $2.37 million funding under Round 2 of the ActiveKIT initiative.

The successful projects have been designed by the active industry, start-ups and small businesses to get more Queenslanders physically active.

ActiveKIT embraces Knowledge, Innovation and Technology to encourage new and innovative ways of helping people get active.

Organisations have been encouraged to collaborate in Round 2 to produce inclusive, flexible and social physical activity products and programs aimed at increasing the number of opportunities available for Queenslanders.

Some of the successful projects include:

  • An augmented reality dance fitness program for young people ($100,000)
  • An all-ages and abilities program at a ninja centre at Ipswich ($200,000)
  • An anti-gravity treadmill for people with a disability in Toowoomba ($52,436)
  • A Connected Courts app linking people to the state’s basketball courts ($149,107)
  • Keyless access to a sports centre and swimming pool in Georgetown ($90,926)
  • A self-defence program for women across Queensland ($83,501)
  • A modified Hockey5 program for children and young Queenslanders ($100,000)
  • A futsal program for Indigenous children at the tip of Cape York ($54,954)
  • A Moves+ app that tracks and rewards you for activity ($185,000)
  • A Footy-FIT program for Queensland women ($86,000)
  • A Surf Sisters program for Queensland women ($100,000)
  • An Eat, Move, Breathe program for health education in Bundaberg ($100,000)

Round 2 of ActiveKIT is supported by Health and Wellbeing Queensland through co-funding and co-design and offers funding across two tiers: Tier 1; up to $100,000 and Tier 2; between $100,001 and $200,000, with the successful projects to be delivered from November 2022.

Round 1 of the program saw $4.1 million in approved funding towards 39 projects including to Scenic Rim Council which now delivers the award winning EmpowHER Hiking Program that has seen hundreds of women and girls participate in guided walks since February.
