Wests Bulldogs hit a home run with new batting cage

05 Dec 2022

A new batting cage at the Darra home of the Wests Bulldogs is set to change the game for the club’s 300 baseball players who now have a premium facility for training.

The cage was opened to coincide with the club’s 60th anniversary celebrations on Saturday 4 December, and will allow coaches to better refine the techniques of their batters and pitchers through video review and one-on-one instruction.

The cage is 23 metres by 16 metres, featuring two lanes so two batters can practice at the same time, and it can also be reconfigured to be used for fielding drills.

The club was formed in 1961 after the merger of three local baseball clubs and 60 years on they now have 20 teams including 11 junior teams, in addition to an Under 8’s Teeball program, so they will all now get much more batting practice time at training inside the batting cage.

The project was funded through a $177,371 Queensland Government grant under the Active Community Infrastructure Kickstart program which aims to ensure clubs are ready to go with new facilities as we move out of the Covid-19 pandemic.
