More magic on the Great Barrier Reef

25 Feb 2022

Visitors to the Great Barrier Reef have another reason to stay longer and soak up its magic with the launch of a new 1000sqm pontoon.

Experience Co. received $3 million through the 2020 Growing Tourism Infrastructure fund for their new pontoon, Reef Magic at Moore Reef - 45 kilometres off Cairns.

Set for opening in March 2022, Reef Magic is a three-level pontoon for up to 250 guests to enjoy snorkelling, diving, swimming or viewing the underwater activity in the observatory.

The pontoon features a one-of-a-kind water entry and step structure for snorkellers and swimmers of all abilities and viewing platform for family and friends.

Experience Co. has worked closely with Traditional Owner groups and their respective Land and Sea Country Rangers to incorporate language, culture and Indigenous ecological knowledge into their operations.

The pontoon supported 40 jobs during construction and is expected to generate $50 million in economic revenue for the region and will create a further 59 jobs once fully operational.

Reef Magic has been built with the future in mind and contains a fully functional scientific lab for reef research and is sustainably powered by 16 solar panels and three wind turbines and guest numbers will be capped to reduce our overall impact and help customers enjoy a day on the reef with more space and less crowds.
