Cairns to host Tourism Week in 2023

11 Nov 2022

Cairns will be at the epicentre of Queensland tourism when it hosts the tourism industry’s annual premier events – the Destination IQ and Destination Q Forums, and the Queensland Tourism Awards gala ceremony – during Tourism Week from 22-24 November 2023.

It’s a major coup for the city with the three events predicted to generate up to $1 million for the Cairns visitor economy to go towards accommodation and transport providers, restaurants and cafes and the region’s tourism operators.

The events will be held at the refurbished Cairns Convention Centre and allow the city to showcase its natural attractions, visitor experiences and venues to industry leaders.

The announcement was made at this year’s DestinationQ Forum held at the Gold Coast where more than 900 tourism industry representatives attended. The Forum was held alongside Destination IQ and the Queensland Tourism Awards gala ceremony.  All three annual events allow the industry to celebrate the remarkable tourism businesses that make Queensland a destination of choice for travellers.

DestinationQ is Queensland’s leading tourism industry event which brings government and industry leaders together to consider the future of the industry and discuss key tourism and events issues and priorities to ensure Queensland remains competitive as a destination.

Destination IQ is an initiative of the Queensland Tourism Industry Council which brings together native title holders, business, government, tourism and community leaders to discuss opportunities, issues and strategies that are shaping First Nations tourism in Queensland.

The Queensland Tourism Awards recognise the outstanding achievements of the state’s tourism industry, including individuals, industry operators and events.

The announcement of Cairns as the host city follows the release of the new Towards Tourism 2032 strategy, a ten-year plan to help transform the industry in the lead up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
