Ageing Well Noosa

04 Oct 2022

Another fantastic ActiveKIT initiative is helping inactive over 65's in the Noosa Shire find their passion for active recreation.

Ageing Well Noosa was a 40 week program delivered by the local council and saw more than 250 participants a week getting involved in a range of physical, social, spiritual and mental wellbeing activities provided. The activities were provided at a low or no cost.

The project took an innovative spin, using virtual reality headsets with programmed meditation to increase motivation to take part in physical activity as well as an e-bike riding program which included ‘Learn to Ride Skills Program’ and ‘Guided Rides’.

The results speak for themselves with an increase of 19.74% of individuals participating in moderate physical activity 2 to 3 times a week. At the completion of the program, the rate of individuals meeting the current recommendation for physical activity for over 65’s was 44.23% compared to the Queensland average of 21.4%.

ActiveKIT, delivered in collaboration with Health and Wellbeing Queensland, aims to encourage better utilisation of knowledge, harnessing innovation and leveraging technology to enable more Queenslanders to be physically active more often.
