New lights illuminate a bright future for Gladstone football

26 Apr 2023

Football is set to light up at Brian Niven Park in Gladstone with new lighting installed on Field 2 to allow Central Football Club to host more home games and Grand Finals.

Two new 18-metre poles have been installed and new light fittings put on two existing poles, to a lux level of 100, giving Central Football Club two fields that can be lit up for training and games at night.

The new lighting will turbo charge registrations for the club, which has seen significant growth in female participation.

The club is running an all-girls under 13 competition this year, which will see round games played on the newly lit field.

Central Football Club is also working with Football Queensland to host an inaugural junior carnival at their grounds with some games being played under lights.

The lights were installed at a cost of $145,036, including a $112,449 contribution under Round One of the Queensland Government’s Active Gameday Project Fund, with the remainder paid for by the club.

The club has 475 members including 350 registered players, with seven senior teams and 28 junior teams registered in the Central Queensland zone.

The new lights are a big win for football in Gladstone.
