New $4.125 million clubhouse opens at Ashgrove
Playing rugby and cricket will take on a new level of comfort for 3,000 players including 2,200 children and countless volunteers after the opening of a new $4.125 million clubhouse at Ashgrove Sports Ground.
The sprawling new building will be used by GPS Rugby Club and Valleys District Cricket Club, who have shared the ovals for 44 years.
The clubhouse contains female change rooms and showers, referee change rooms, a new gym and strength and conditioning centre, first-aid facilities, public toilets, a refurbished community hall and public space.
The clubhouse was built by ATG Projects and Project Managed by COHA Group, creating 10 full-time jobs during construction.
It was funded through a $2.4 million Queensland Government election commitment, with contributions from the Brisbane City Council ($500,000), GPS Rugby Club ($1.1 million) and the Valleys District Cricket Club ($125,000).
A further $100,000 Queensland Government investment went to upgrading the cricket nets, which was completed 12 months ago.
Since 2015, the Queensland Government has approved more than $26 million to support rugby union in the state and almost $18 million for cricket.
