Queensland on target to host games in twin World Cups

13 May 2022

Queensland rugby fans have reason to celebrate after it was announced that Australia would host the 2027 Rugby World Cup and the 2029 Women’s Rugby World Cup.

With the world’s best rectangular stadium in Suncorp Stadium and a first-class stadium in Townsville, Queensland is a strong contender to be named as a host state for matches.

The Queensland Government is working closely with World Rugby and Rugby Australia to lock in World Cup games and cement this extraordinary opportunity that will create jobs and generate up to $150 million in economic revenue.

Hosting the Rugby World Cups in 2027 and 2029 will provide Queensland a unique opportunity to showcase what the state has to offer in the lead-up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
