Aviation fund secures increase in Singapore Airlines services for 2024

As part of the Attracting Aviation Investment Fund (AAIF), services will increase from 21 flights per week to 25 from November 2024, with a further increase of 28 flights per week in 2025 and ongoing in 2026, as part of the three-year deal.

Additional services, not part of the AAIF deal, have also been secured to increase seasonal services by four supplementary flights a week across the 2023 end of year peak period, operating through to 13 January 2024.

Singapore Airlines Regional Vice President Louis Arul said the strong demand for travel to and from Brisbane had been heartening.

“We are particularly pleased to be able to announce this scheduled service one year in advance, giving our Queensland customers more departure times to choose from to best meet their travel needs.”

Brisbane Airport Chief Executive Officer, Gert-Jan de Graaff welcomed the strategic capacity boost.

“Singapore Airlines is critical to Queensland's connectivity to Europe,” he said.

“More recently it has come to play a key role in India’s emergence as the 4^th largest contributor of overseas visitors.”

He said the deal had the potential to move 787,000 people in and out of Brisbane each year.

“When you think about it, 25 flights per week into Brisbane is quite incredible,” he said.

The $200 million Attracting Aviation Investment Fund supports growth of service frequency, capacity and development of new aviation routes into Queensland’s international airports.

Supported services include United Airlines – San-Franciso to Brisbane, Air Canada – Vancouver to Brisbane, Air New Zealand – Auckland to Gold Coast, Jetstar - Osaka to Brisbane, China Eastern Airlines – Shanghai to Brisbane and China Southern Airlines – Guangzhou to Brisbane.

To date the AAIF has backed 27 new and returning international aviation services.

The additional Singapore Airlines service will operate on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday from Brisbane to Singapore from 28 November 2024.
