2021 Challenge Games

or more than ten years our team at the Townsville Sports Reserve has hosted the Challenge Games. This is an annual event that provides two days of fun, friendship and participation in a range of sport and fun activities for school students who have a disability. These activities include running, jumping, throwing and team events plus many other novelty activities. Students may participate in as many events as they wish, according to their own level of interest and ability.

This year over 1000 kids from more than 80 schools, groups and learning centres from across the state participated in the event.

Cayleb

This year local ten-year-old Cayleb competed in the Challenge Games’ first ever ‘race runner’ event against race runner superstar, Amy Tobin.

Cayleb has been coming to the Challenge Games for the last 5 years and loves competing. Normally Cayleb would compete in a wheelchair but this year he was able to use the race runners, providing him with a new challenge and allowing him to run under his own steam unassisted. Cayleb’s favourite thing about the Challenge Games is winning ribbons.

Amy

This year Amy Tobin attended the Challenge Games for the first time. Amy started up the race runners club on the Gold Coast which has about 120 members. Two athletes now have access to the race runner chairs in Townsville thanks to Amy’s dedication and hard-work. Amy hopes to attend the 2024 Paris Para Olympics.

Jackson

Jackson is a ten-year-old hailing from the Gold Coast and attended the Challenge Games for the first time this year. Jackson was also able to take advantage of the race runner chairs and won every event he competed in over the last 2 days.  Jackson’s aim is to continue training with Amy Tobin and has his sights set on the Brisbane 2032 Paralympic Games.
