Great Getaways Queensland

12 Nov 2021

Our Sunshine Coast Recreation Centre was a hive of activity as it played host to a great new weekend initiative led by Outdoors Queensland this month.

Great Getaways Queensland is proudly supported by the Queensland Government’s ActiveKIT program and is all about getting over 55’s outdoors and active in locations across Queensland.

ActiveKIT is focused on supporting the implementation of new and innovative products or services to get more Queenslanders active, more often and to strengthen the capability of organisations in the Active Industry. This great new program from Outdoors Queensland certainly achieves this.

Participants at the camp, held on 5 to 7 November, had an absolute ball trying their hand at kayaking, the low ropes courses, the big swing, bodyboarding and of course some lovely beach walks.

With some great new friendships forged, a weekend highlight was the chatter and debrief around the campfire at night.

Cheryl, 58, from Birkdale, was attending her second Great Getaways weekend and loved the experience.

“The weekend was very exhausting but very exhilarating and really pushed me out of my comfort zone,” she said

“I definitely have lots of friends I will be telling about this and getting them to come along to future Great Getaways weekends.”

The next camp will be a Weekend Adventure at Camp Warrawee in Joyner on 25 to 27 March 2022.
