Innisfail bowls club gets rolling again after riverbank repairs

10 Aug 2021

Lawn bowls are rolling down the green again at Innisfail Bowls Club with the completion of $1.2 million in repair works after the 2019 floods destabilised the riverbank and retaining wall below the club.

An 85-metre-long mass block wall was built on the riverbank, allowing for a new bowling green to be built, along with new fencing, an equipment shed and shade structures with seating.

The club can now plan events with certainty as it prepares for its centenary in 2023.

A total of 44 community and not-for-profit sport and recreation grounds have had restoration works since the 2019 North Queensland floods.

The works have been jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) through the Community and Recreational Assets program.
