Howard Smith Wharves River Terminal

Project overview

Through the Attracting Tourism Fund, the Queensland Government has invested $5.5 million to develop the Howard Smith Wharves River Terminal, below the Story Bridge. This project will deliver three new pontoons.

These new pontoons will provide crucial supporting infrastructure for commercial tour operator pick-up and drop-off points and will have the potential added benefit of supporting through traffic for the HSW and Eagle Street restaurant and entertainment precincts.

This project is a part of the $48.6 million Attracting Tourism Fund (ATF) Fund, a key initiative of the Queensland Government’s Growing Tourism, Growing Tourism Jobs Policy.

Benefits

  • Supports 7 construction jobs during development, and 23 ongoing jobs.

  • Estimated to support an additional 35,900 annual visitors.

  • Estimated to generate $13 million in additional annual overnight visitor expenditure.
