Charleville Cosmos Centre

Visitors can discover the incredible beauty of the Milky Way Galaxy with expert guides and through powerful Meade telescopes at the Charleville Cosmos Centre.

Charleville’s Cosmos Centre is dedicated to ensuring visitors enjoy the wonder of the outback night sky. Astronomy by day and observatory by night – the experts share their knowledge and allow you to observe binary stars, star clusters, planets and the Moon using powerful Meade telescopes.

Charleville is the largest town in the Shire of Murweh and the central stopover on the Natural Sciences Loop. The town is well known for its historical attractions and the Cosmos Centre and Observatory - which offers night time observatory sessions, astronomy by day experiences and the Universal Dreaming experience - where visitors can discover how Indigenous cultures used the night sky.

Backed by funding from the Queensland Government, the Outback attraction will soon include a new telescope workshop and the existing Old Weather Bureau will be transformed into a new heritage Cosmic Time Warp attraction.

The additions will be open in time for the 2020 Christmas holidays, and are projected to attract an additional 25,000 visitors annually and grow the local economy by $300,000 a year – a much needed boost for the drought affected town.
