Saltwater Eco Tours
Saltwater Eco Tours is a Mooloolaba based ecotourism company creating unique cultural tours escorted by Indigenous Guides who share their People’s stories, traditions and culture.
High quality, unique Indigenous tourism offerings are essential to attracting visitors to Queensland so we can grow our tourism industry and create more jobs in our regions.
Simon Thornalley, Company Founder and Captain of the iconic Spray of the Coral Coast is passionate about the ocean, his Indigenous heritage and the environment, which has led him to create a new cultural tourism business. Saltwater Eco Tours is a unique experience providing Indigenous cultural tours, traditional sailing adventures and sunset cruises on the Sunshine Coast.
Indigenous guides take visitors on a journey to culturally significant sites and share their people’s stories, traditions and culture during an unforgettable cruising experience along the Mooloolah River on board the historical 100 year old timber sailing vessel.
Simon’s grandmother is a respected elder of the Kaurareg people, Torres Strait, and his family have come from the sea for generations, calling it home and a making a living from it. Simon is also one of our Young Tourism Leaders and is keen to influence other young Indigenous people to pursue career opportunities connected to culture, another reason he is #MakingitGreat in Queensland.
We are committed to supporting the growth of Indigenous business and partnerships and increasing Indigenous participation in tourism, generating jobs and economic outcomes. That’s why we’re investing $10 million over the next two years for Indigenous tourism development and growth.
The 2020 Year of Indigenous Tourism is part of our commitment to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders to take charge of their economic futures.
