Recreational trails

Project overview

The pristine environment of Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island) offers visitors many opportunities to connect with nature. The Quandamooka Yoolooburrabee Aboriginal Corporation (QYAC) is enhancing this experience by developing and improving recreational trails on the island.

The tracks are being planned with key stakeholders to:

  • provide unique walking experiences in diverse landscapes
  • preserve sensitive environmental areas and important cultural sites
  • ensure the safety and enjoyment of users.

The Traditional Custodians have now completed the Jarlo Beetle track, a 4km walk to the Mount Vane lookout point, one of the island’s highest peaks, and the Mount Bippo to Penbean track, a 6.6km out-and-back track, with a 3.3km walk to the Mount Bippo lookout point. Work is also underway on a track from Gumpi (Dunwich) to Bummiera (Brown Lake).
