Cunnamulla Rail Experience

Project overview

The Western Railway Line once ran from Cunnamulla to Brisbane connecting isolated communities and uniting people throughout history.

During both world wars, the town band was often on hand to welcome the troops returning home by rail.

Officially opened in July 2021, this project creates an experience that encourages visitors to stay overnight in Outback Queensland. The project engages visitors through storytelling using film, light, sound, and props.

Authentic stories will cover:

  • outback rail history
  • the importance of rail transport as a connection for isolated families
  • Cunnamulla's history during World War I and World War II.
