Gold Coast Artificial Dive Attraction - Wonder Reef

Project overview

We’ve invested $2.5 million through the Growing Tourism Infrastructure Fund and partnered with Gold Coast City Council to create a site that will be perfect for dive enthusiasts.

Located 2.5 kilometres offshore, the purpose-built reef will create eco-experiences for divers with a key benefit being its ease of accessibility, just a 10-minute boat trip from the Gold Coast Seaway.

Built in Maryborough and Brisbane, Wonder Reef includes nine buoyant sculptural reef structures reaching 22 metres above the sea floor. Each reef structure is gravity anchored to the seabed by a reef foundation weighing more than 70 tonnes.

The reef will have a low environmental impact thanks to its location on a sandy seabed and is designed to accelerate growth and attract a rich diversity of sea life.

Wonder Reef opened to the public in June 2022. To learn more about the world first buoyant reef and to book a dive visit
