Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

We’re supporting Brisbane’s iconic Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary to build a new immersive wildlife experience and exhibits.

Project overview

We’re investing $1.212 million to help Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary build the new Wild Walk, an immersive wildlife experience and exhibit.

This project saw the expansion of Lone Pine’s publicly accessible space by over 15,000sqm, which will include a 581-metre boardwalk through established eucalyptus forest and seven new wildlife exhibits.

The attraction will allow visitors to get up close to the animals and includes the introduction of night tours – the only weekly night tour of its kind in south east Queensland where visitors can enjoy rare glimpses of nocturnal wildlife.

This project is a part of the $25 million Growing Tourism Infrastructure (GTI) Fund 2020/21 which is a key element of Queensland’s Economic Recovery Strategy: Unite and Recover for Queensland Jobs to help accelerate the State’s recovery from COVID-19.

  • Support 14 construction jobs and 11 operational jobs.

  • Estimated to increase visitors to the Sanctuary by 80,000 annually.

  • Estimated to boost the local economy by $3.2 million annually.

  • Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is incredibly appreciative of the GTI 2020/2021 funding, provided by the Queensland Government’s Department of Tourism, Innovation and Sport. This support has allowed us to fast-track the Wild Walk project, which is vital to the sanctuary’s longevity and success as we head into a post-COVID reality.

This project will not only allow us to provide local, interstate and international guests with new and engaging wildlife experiences, but also help us secure ongoing employment opportunities for both new and existing staff, and significantly contribute to Brisbane’s recovering tourism industry.
