The Queensland Government has a suite of resources to support the tourism industry and tourism development in Queensland.

Tourism Business Health Check

The Tourism Business Health Check is an online business tool developed to support tourism businesses with risk and resilience planning.

Jointly funded by the Commonwealth and Queensland Government's under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA), the assessment will help you improve the resilience of your business so you are ready for anything, from loss of key staff, to a pandemic or natural disaster

The assessment takes less than 10 minutes and your responses are confidential and not retained by the Queensland Government.

Queensland Tourism Business Financial Counselling Service

The Queensland Tourism Business Financial Counselling Service provides free financial counselling support to help tourism operators who have been financially impacted as a result of the pandemic or a natural disaster.

The service offers free support from a Tourism Business Financial Counsellor if required after completion of the Tourism Business Health Check.

The counsellors can assist businesses with:

  • understanding their finances and financial position
  • business planning
  • options and strategies to assist business sustainability
  • finding and accessing government assistance
  • identifying personal, professional and financial risks and developing risk management strategies
  • dealing with debt including supporting negotiation and mediation
  • succession planning to transition the family business to the next generation
  • connecting to specialist social and welfare support.

Next Generation Tourism Planning

The Next Generation Tourism Planning handbook provides a framework and guidelines that enable the efficient delivery of tourism development.

Developed in consultation with government, stakeholders and industry, the handbook is applicable to a broad range of tourism projects and relevant to all regions and local government areas across Queensland. It provides guidance on:

  • planning for tourism and tourism development
  • incorporating planning into Queensland’s statutory planning framework.

This partnership facilitates ongoing engagement between industry and government to deliver on key priorities to drive growth and jobs in the state.

Bike Tourism in Queensland

The Bike Tourism in Queensland report identifies significant untapped potential for two-wheeled tourism for the state, driven by a large growing market worth more than $1.95 billion nationally.

The research report provides local government, industry and the community with a strong evidence base for growing bike tourism, and identifies what makes a great tourism experience and what is needed to grow the industry in Queensland.

Best Practice Guide for Working with First Nations Tourism in Queensland

To strengthen the relationship between Indigenous Australia and Queensland’s tourism industry, QTIC has produced the Best Practice Guide for Working with First Nations Tourism in Queensland.

The guide sets out a practical framework for recognising people and place, safeguarding intellectual property rights and cultural protocols, and for respecting Indigenous heritage. The guide contains important resources and protocols relevant for anyone who wishes to engage with First Nations peoples in the tourism sector.

Queensland Conventions Sector

The Queensland Government has conducted a review of the conventions sector in Queensland. The review analysed convention-capable facilities to understand how well they are utilised relative to each other and to other states. The review also assessed the needs of the sector, gaps in current service delivery, impacts of demand caused by future events, and potential for future investment.

The Summary of Key Outcomes: Queensland Conventions Sector Review and Guidance [PDF 385KB] provides guidance for industry considering submission of any proposal for new convention centre infrastructure and/or expansion of existing infrastructure to the Queensland Government.
